Short Answer

Wire the S2000 VFD only after confirming the correct voltage class, isolating power, waiting for DC bus discharge, verifying motor insulation, grounding the VFD and motor, connecting input power only to the input terminals, connecting the motor only to U/V/W, and separating power cables from control/communication cables.

Critical Safety Rule
Do not connect AC input supply to U/V/W. Do not wire the drive while power is ON. Do not install capacitors or power-factor correction devices on the VFD output. Wiring should be done only by a trained electrical person.

Braking Branch
Braking resistor or braking unit must be selected according to model and stopping requirement.
Architecture Rule
A reliable VFD panel separates power wiring, control wiring, communication wiring, grounding, and heat-producing parts. Do not bundle motor power cable with analog or RS485 signal cable.
Terminal Guide
Terminal / AreaFunctionWiring Note
L, NSingle-phase AC input where applicableUse only for supported 2S model input wiring.
R, S, TThree-phase AC inputConnect incoming three-phase supply only to input terminals.
U, V, WThree-phase motor outputConnect motor only. Do not connect AC supply here.
+, - / P+, P-DC bus terminals depending on modelDo not short. Use only as per braking/reactor design and model requirement.
PBBraking resistor terminal where applicableConnect braking resistor only if model/application requires and resistor is correctly selected.
Ground terminalProtective earthGround VFD and motor. Keep earth conductor short and suitable.
EMC groundEMC-related grounding pointFollow site grounding method and manual note for ungrounded neutral systems.
Terminal Verification Rule
Terminal layout can vary by S2000 power frame. Always verify terminal marking on the actual VFD body/nameplate and manual diagram before connecting input, output, DC bus, braking resistor, or grounding wires.
Control Wiring Guide
Digital Inputs
Use X1–X5 / DI terminals for assigned functions such as FWD, REV, reset, jog, multi-speed, or external command. Confirm NPN/PNP wiring method.
Analog Inputs
AI1 supports voltage input. AI2 can be voltage/current depending on jumper and parameter setting. Use shielded cable and correct GND.
RS485
Use twisted pair cable. Check 485+ / 485- polarity, termination, slave address, baud rate, and communication format.
Analog Output
AO can be used for external meter or feedback signal. Confirm voltage/current output selection and scaling.
Relay Output
Use relay output for run/fault/frequency arrival indication as per parameter assignment. Do not exceed contact rating.
Shielding Practice
Keep signal cable away from power cable. Use shielded cable for analog and communication signals. Ground shield correctly.
Signal TypeCorrect PracticeCommon Issue
0–10 V speed referenceUse AI input, GND, shielded cable, and correct frequency source parameter.Speed not changing due to wrong frequency source.
4–20 mA referenceConfirm AI2 jumper and parameter setting.Wrong jumper causes wrong scaling or no response.
Digital start/stopAssign X terminal function and select terminal command source.Drive remains in keypad mode and ignores terminal command.
RS485 controlMatch address, baud, format, register and command source.PLC/HMI timeout or drive not responding.

FAQ
Can I connect AC supply to U, V, W?
No. U, V, W are motor output terminals. Connecting AC input supply to U/V/W can damage the VFD.
Can I use a contactor to start and stop the VFD frequently?
No. Use the contactor for supply isolation only. Start/stop should normally be done using keypad, control terminals, or communication command.
Can I install a capacitor on the VFD output?
No. Do not install power-factor capacitors, surge capacitors, or similar capacitor devices on the VFD output side.
When should I use an output reactor?
Use an output reactor when motor cable length, leakage current, motor insulation stress, or repeated protection trips require it. Long motor cable applications should be reviewed before commissioning.
Why is analog speed reference not working?
Common causes include wrong AI terminal, wrong GND, shield/noise issue, incorrect AI2 jumper, wrong frequency source parameter, or incorrect 0–10 V / 4–20 mA configuration.
What should I send Smidmart before power-on support?
Send model, SKU, serial number, order ID, motor nameplate, input/output wiring photos, panel photo, grounding photo, control wiring photo, application details, and urgency.
